OIL FAQ

· How do you deliver to retail customers in the UK ?

If you have a specific or urgent delivery requirement then please speak to us

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

to avoid disappointment .

Duravac is a manufacturer that specialises in supplying BULK purchasers with oil . A smaller part of our business is retail.

As such retail customers can expect their orders to be processed typically within 1 – 3 days before being despatched by a next day courier.

Duravac usually produces the oil to order unless we already have it in stock. (Whence usually 1 – 3 days is required).

· How do you deliver to international customers ?

It depends upon quantity and the oil.

Bulk purchasers need to contact our factory to arrange a schedule of manufacture first.

If the customer requires us to deliver then we will arrange shipment by land, air or sea freight.

This may incur an administration charge if we have to arrange air or sea shipping.

Shipping charges (not administration charges) vary.

PLEASE SPEAK TO USE FIRST, AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HELP US TO HELP YOU BY:-

* Telling us an exact delivery address / port.

* What containers you require the product in, such as barrels or containers.

We strongly advise such customers to arrange pick up from our factory door.

Smaller international customers may use their own courier, such as Fed Ex etc if they wish and have the oil collected on their accounts,.

If Duravac is sending to international retail customers we usually use Fed Ex.

· Where can I find the import/export/harmonised codes for your products ?

IF YOU ARE AN IMPORTER OF OUR PRODUCTS, THESE ARE THE Three NUMBERS YOU REQUIRE.

FOR MINERAL OILS:

2710-1985

(includes tw68, tw100, satorrlene normal)

_

FOR MINERAL OILS WITH ANTI-OXIDANT:

2710-1999

(includes tw68a, tw100a, dp201, envoil20)

_

FOR all SILICONES:

3910-0000

· I don't know what I want, can I ask someone ?

YES!

We have the personnel to deal with technical questions - And then recommend the right oil for you. If we don't know the answer straight away then we will call you back.

· Why is Duravac different ?

Duravac only manufactures for the vacuum market, we take great care to optimise our oils for vacuum applications only. We have our own special process for this, unlike many others who sell generic oils..

Oh, and we have technical support for our customers!

· Oil or fluid ?

They are the same. Some people use the term fluid, others use oil.

· What is an ISO number ?

ISO 32 simply means 32 centistokes. The ISO number may be replaced by any other number to denote the centistoke rating. ISO xx is not actually a product. The oil may be hydrocarbon or silicone based. If you are looking for an oil with an ISO rating, we need to know whether the oil is mineral, hydrocarbon or silicone.

· What is the importance of viscosity ?

It depends, but viscosity all converges as the temperature increases, so what looks like a large difference at room temperature becomes almost insignificant at pump working temperature.

· Why use a silicone oil ?

All silicone oil products have greater temperature stability and a high boiling point. They also have a much longer life than hydrocarbon products. However silicone oils are more expensive to produce. Silicone oils are man made.

· Why use a hydrocarbon based oil ?

Hydrocarbon oils are a natural product. They are cheaper than silicone oils. Hydrocarbon oils have a lower boiling point and boil over a large range of temperatures. They also have a shorter life span and decompose easily.

· What is different about Duravac oils compared to others ?

All Duravac oils have a more precise method of manufacture. Our hydrocarbon oils have a higher temperature stability and less natural decomposition than other oils in the marketplace, and of which are often more expensive. This means that the life cycle of Duravac oils is longer, resulting in economic benefits for our customers.

· Things to avoid in your oil

All silicone oils are reactive to all alkaline metals, and phenyl methyl silicone oils are reactive to alkaline metals in the following order (greatest first):

Ceasium, potassium, sodium, magnesium and lithium. Invaribly these will be in the form of hydroxy compounds. However when the above catalysts are presented to the silicone oil in the vapour phase as with magnesium alloy electron beam welding this can have a significant degrading effect upon silicone oils.

It also has been brought to our attention positive ions derived from an argon plasma source can also result in oil cleavage (decomposition).

All hydrocarbon oils are susceptible to degradation by the presence of acids. Also prolonged use can results in the presence of carboxylic acid, which is identified by a very strong pungent smell
